<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This was another project from the bin of random items for my friend. I thought that the wings and hearts would go together nicely for a simple but elegant look. Let's face it, Swarovski anything tends to look elegant and beautiful. Most of the findings here were silver plated to be more economical, but the earwires are sterling silver filled as my friend can have issues with earwires that are plated or finished. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All in all these earrings were easy to make, but I think they are still lovely and would go with any type of look. </span><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pr0NausRuxk/UyZMIkKKzWI/AAAAAAAAAas/NUvSPIRquX8/s1600/FSCN1917.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pr0NausRuxk/UyZMIkKKzWI/AAAAAAAAAas/NUvSPIRquX8/s1600/FSCN1917.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ever just want to make a simple pair of earrings? That's what happened here. I had a night where I was going through the bin of products my friend had bought for me to have fun with. I love making pieces for her because she really lets me run with my creativity and will randomly bring me a bag of stuff and just say "Have fun!" </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Sidenote: I have been playing with the settings on my camera and trying to learn how to fine tune my pictures so that they come out better, so you may be seeing more high quality pictures in my posts such as the ones here. I spent a night simply looking up tutorials and instructions for my specific camera and am really happy with the pictures I am now taking. You may still see some posts with the old style of pictures as I am working through what I have, but I hope to keep improving them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-16MccXINbVk/UyZMJfOfXeI/AAAAAAAAAa4/kRqSRDl50b4/s1600/FSCN1915.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-16MccXINbVk/UyZMJfOfXeI/AAAAAAAAAa4/kRqSRDl50b4/s1600/FSCN1915.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">These earrings feature a charm with the word love on it as well as a chain drop with a Swarovski wild heart on it. I believe the color is antique pink, but am not 100% sure on that. Still it was a nice dusky pink that I thought worked well with the piece. A great statement piece without losing how fun the earrings feel. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-25093670416504270432014-04-04T22:52:00.000-07:002014-04-04T22:52:00.048-07:00Seaside Seals<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is another in the series of animal shrinky dinks I made. Line art works really well on shrinky dinks and once shrunk can really intensify how it looks. You really have to be careful though to ensure that the piece doesn't lose too much detail when it shrinks. It's really easy to forget the ratio of how much it shrinks, believe me there are some I have had to re-do because of this. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I paired these with blue Swarovski crystals and rivolis to add to the sea theme. I know that a lot of these that I make will be more whimsical, but what is jewelry if you are not having a little fun with it, right? I'm loving this particular style and will probably make many more. </span><br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvdiFNnAs0E/UyZFdV55xOI/AAAAAAAAAaU/AzzZm8EI7aI/s1600/DSCN1749.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tvdiFNnAs0E/UyZFdV55xOI/AAAAAAAAAaU/AzzZm8EI7aI/s1600/DSCN1749.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I haven't talked about it a ton on here, but my father battled cancer for five years before losing that battle. I recently started making shrinky dinks with the O in hope replaced by an awareness ribbon. The ribbon can be a different color depending on the cause, but the design can stay the same. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I decided to make earrings out of these accented by Swarovski crystals. I thought this would be a great way for those battling a disease or those who are supporting them to convey the message that they should always have hope. My father fought til the very end because he said that every day he was alive was another day that they might learn something new that leads to a cure for cancer. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLrtYX_oc-8/UyZFhFqfPkI/AAAAAAAAAag/iCcHz9Sghmw/s1600/DSCN1756.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZLrtYX_oc-8/UyZFhFqfPkI/AAAAAAAAAag/iCcHz9Sghmw/s1600/DSCN1756.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">He never gave up hope, even when he knew that he only had days left to live and knew that his body was failing from the damage cancer had done. Every pair of these hope earrings that I make, even those not associated with what he battled, are a tribute to him and the message that he tried to convey. He always greeted every nurse and doctor with a smile, telling them he felt fine, even when he was in pain. I can only hope that everyone with a condition or disease that they are fighting, no matter how dire it may feel, can find a way to have a little hope...even if that hope is just that what doctors learn from them may lead to a cure for someone else. </span><br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iKyrA55TFTU/UyZA-FXuY0I/AAAAAAAAAZs/PApRV6VsHQs/s1600/DSCN1716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iKyrA55TFTU/UyZA-FXuY0I/AAAAAAAAAZs/PApRV6VsHQs/s1600/DSCN1716.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Let's talk shrinky dinks. I have become addicted to this medium. It allows me to create a custom charm or focal. I prefer to hand draw them when I can, but you can also trace images, just make sure that if you are making them for sale that you are using copyright free images. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Also, always make sure to coat the shrinky dinks with some kind of sealant or top coat after baking, otherwise the color can become smudged or be scratched off, and you don't want that to happen.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I recently did a number of shrinky dinks in different images of animals, and one of the ones I was most happy with were these happy little owls. They came out very whimsical and fun. With the addition of some sparkling Swarovski crystals the tone was set for these little guys. While the owl picture itself is very carefree and fun, the crystals add more of a sophisticated look. I used some of those rivoli earrings I created as the base. </span><br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MCT253rw98U/UyY1an4VJJI/AAAAAAAAAYw/bv0GhN8gljw/s1600/DSCN1706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MCT253rw98U/UyY1an4VJJI/AAAAAAAAAYw/bv0GhN8gljw/s1600/DSCN1706.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">These earrings started out as a Christmas present for my mom, but I liked them so much I made a second pair to sell in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/168033829/green-onyx-and-swarovski-earrings?" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a>. I got these beautiful green onyx briolettes and just thought they would be perfect for this style. I started by making some briolette wrapped loops on them as this would be the easiest way to attach them. I'm not that good at this technique yet, but I was happy with the improvement I've been making in learning it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l0Xenbk0XWU/UyY1nMY_oWI/AAAAAAAAAZE/OrRl4MVjMuY/s1600/DSCN1715.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l0Xenbk0XWU/UyY1nMY_oWI/AAAAAAAAAZE/OrRl4MVjMuY/s1600/DSCN1715.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">To add a little sparkle to the earrings I decided to make beaded links with some Swarovski bicones. These just added a little sparkle and shine to the earrings and accent the briolettes well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">While they may appear to be pretty simple in concept, they add to any look and can be very formal depending on what they are paired with. I just love the deep green in these briolettes and couldn't pass up doing something fun with them. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-50656414722975908722014-03-19T18:46:00.000-07:002014-03-19T18:46:48.272-07:00Captain America<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8aztoYPHL2k/UxmCNcVtGYI/AAAAAAAAAX8/7aVMVYuipGI/s1600/DSCN1689.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8aztoYPHL2k/UxmCNcVtGYI/AAAAAAAAAX8/7aVMVYuipGI/s1600/DSCN1689.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This started out as a custom piece that was requested as a single necklace. After making the first one, I quickly had two more orders for it. After making three of them, I will not be making anymore. As awesome as this Captain America necklace came out, it was super labor intensive and took me forever to get right. Still, I really love how it came out, everything just aligned.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iCV2ZTArs90/UxmClKDkYvI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/zfWLmJ-rrHY/s1600/DSCN1691.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iCV2ZTArs90/UxmClKDkYvI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/zfWLmJ-rrHY/s1600/DSCN1691.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It features of mix of comic images as well as vintage poster like images. I added Swarovski crystal pearls in their gemstone colors as they were the perfect red, white and blue. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You know, you never realize how many different shades of blue there are in Sharpie's until you are trying to match them to shades in an image that you want to really get right. I think in one of the poster like images I used four different shades of blue. Still, worth it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Again, this was a limited run and I will not be making any more (you would have to offer a really good sum of money to compensate me for the time it takes) but man it sure came out looking pretty cool. </span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7G-2fPgo2UU/Uxl-bLHdUkI/AAAAAAAAAXg/4CH8AE2dhzk/s1600/DSCN1679.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7G-2fPgo2UU/Uxl-bLHdUkI/AAAAAAAAAXg/4CH8AE2dhzk/s1600/DSCN1679.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You know what, having tons of photos and blog posts that need to be written makes writing them all out a bit hard, as you don't want to be repetitive. I certainly don't want theses to start sounding like "here are some shrinky dinks and an ICE resin pendant and this was made for Comic Con." So let's just touch on a bunch of important points. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">ICE Resin Issues: I've previously discussed about ICE Resin seeping through multiple coats of Mod Podge. In this case it made the pendant look more rustic or vintage, but on a personal level, it really did not please me. This is something that I am still working on figuring out. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JFBgR49Ygfg/Uxl-cG5_qoI/AAAAAAAAAXs/I--gulMG3lI/s1600/DSCN1683.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JFBgR49Ygfg/Uxl-cG5_qoI/AAAAAAAAAXs/I--gulMG3lI/s1600/DSCN1683.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">These shrinky dinks were super fun to make. I found cartoon icons for the Joker and Catwoman, as well as a symbol for the Riddler. I also added a classic POW! and of course the Batman logo. These were super colorful and fun to figure out. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The bat beads. Okay, here's a secret. These were really inexpensive acrylic beads that had some white detailing on them. Most of the detailing I took care of with a Sharpie marker since I only really wanted the eyes to show. This totally improved their look and made them a real statement part of this necklace. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Notice anything different? Most of these necklaces I have been making with chains, but for the Batman one I felt like going with an illusion style to give it a cleaner look with more impact. The wire is black too, so it adds to the overall look. This one took me longer to make than some of the others, but it ended up being one of my favorites. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-29011377642654242592014-03-13T22:58:00.000-07:002014-03-13T22:58:28.592-07:00Snoopy Dance anyone?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ok, I should include a disclaimer here, I am a BtVS devotee. I love all things Joss Whedon. So when my friend asked me to make a Xander themed piece, I was more than happy to do so. I really wanted to feature Xander's face, but finding a picture I could use for inspiration to base my drawing off of was difficult. I finally found something that was more line art based from one of the comics, so I was able to use that as a reference. This was really difficult for me, and stretched my drawing ability, but I felt that it came out pretty well. I also did a shrinky dink of the BtVS logo and of course...Snoopy doing the Snoopy Dance (any Buffy fan will know what this is a reference to). With all the detail in the pendant I decided that besides the shrinky dinks I would just use some Swarovski crystal for sparkle and keep the rest simple. Word from my friend is that she was able to show this to Nicholas Brendan when she met him at Comic Con, so I was floored by that! </span><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q7i-kAryLPU/Uxl0bfXjJ5I/AAAAAAAAAW0/0qzqwQsqQ_I/s1600/DSCN1673.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q7i-kAryLPU/Uxl0bfXjJ5I/AAAAAAAAAW0/0qzqwQsqQ_I/s1600/DSCN1673.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is another one where I used a picture within a bezel and some ICE Resin. This one features old school X-men. With the impact of the picture I decided to keep all of the other details simple to simply accent the main pendant. I did this by using beaded links as well as beads attached as drops to pieces of chain which hang below the pendant itself. It doesn't need a whole lot of added color since the pendant itself is so colorful, so the beads are mirrorlike or clear with a finish. Also, these accents give the piece more shine and sparkle, but still keeps the attention on the main image in the pendant. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">ICE resin is still a relatively new material for me. So far it is not really a favorite, but I think that is only because I don't have a ton of practice with it. I coated all of the images I used in the pendant with multiple coats of Mod Podge, but there still were some issues where the ICE resin would seep through. Still, I hope with more practice I will figure out better methods. We shall see with time. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HYRY6DaYT2g/Uxlqjsv4-UI/AAAAAAAAAWY/wbg-x27N7e0/s1600/DSCN1467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HYRY6DaYT2g/Uxlqjsv4-UI/AAAAAAAAAWY/wbg-x27N7e0/s1600/DSCN1467.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Yes, we are continuing the trend of pieces that I created for my friend when she went to Comic Con. There were quite a few pieces that I custom made for her and I want to make sure I share them. This one was of course centered on Wolverine. I kept this design fairly simple, just a bezel with a picture that was embed within ICE resin and then a few drops, as well as a shrinky dink of one of the X men logos which features Wolverine's claws. I decided to use gunmetal findings for this piece, to go with the gritty feel of the imagery I was using. I used just a simple chain style with the toggle clasp in front. All of the drops and then pendant were attached to the ring portion of the toggle clasp.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">One thing to keep in mind, when using shrinky dinks make sure that you remember to punch your hole before baking it! On this one I forgot to punch the hole and there is no way to punch it once it has been baked and cured. A great way to fix this is to use a fold over or glue on bail, as I ended up doing in this piece. For now, I'll leave you with this lovely image, have a great day!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-23465445199637244202014-03-07T19:19:00.000-08:002014-03-07T19:19:42.112-08:00The Final Frontier<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hpC-Y2FLbmE/UxldZ9EdYfI/AAAAAAAAAVo/yYWWTE6Mmws/s1600/DSCN1675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hpC-Y2FLbmE/UxldZ9EdYfI/AAAAAAAAAVo/yYWWTE6Mmws/s1600/DSCN1675.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So in my foray of shrinky dink madness (ok, I'll just say it, it has become my favorite medium) I decided to make up a quick freehand version of the Star Trek Logo and turn it into earrings. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I really cannot express how much I enjoy working with shrinky dinks. They allow me to express my creativity and create custom charms or pendants. It has completely expanded what I am able to create. Can't find a charm that will exactly match what I want? I can make it out of shrinky dinks! It is always a trial an error process. It can be really hard to figure out the exact sizing ratio but once you get the hang of it, the possibilities are really endless. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5m_kSOuBi6w/UxldZfwUgXI/AAAAAAAAAVs/DMDjMvRZbF8/s1600/DSCN1674.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5m_kSOuBi6w/UxldZfwUgXI/AAAAAAAAAVs/DMDjMvRZbF8/s1600/DSCN1674.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The Star trek logo was relatively simple to replicate and I knew that they were going to be a hit for my friend that I have been making custom jewelry for. These were quick, easy and still have a lot of impact. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My friend ended up loving these earrings and I am tempted to make some more since the design was so quick and easy to create. If you are just starting out with a medium like shrinky dinks, then using something simple would be the best way to start. An image like this is something that is easy to freehand, but instantly recognizable. </span><br />

Life has been a bit unstable for a while now, and I've just not been able to keep up with everything. For one thing, there was an addition made to my family. She's a handful...but I love her. </span><div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lqonJFterVU/UxlmKzDWVxI/AAAAAAAAAWM/NdD_kjMxX0o/s1600/1622215_715816995107077_20547278_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lqonJFterVU/UxlmKzDWVxI/AAAAAAAAAWM/NdD_kjMxX0o/s1600/1622215_715816995107077_20547278_n.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You thought it was going to be something else, didn't you? Haha. After being without a cat for three years I finally decided to get another and my landlord was nice enough to let me, so I got Calypso. I was lucky enough to get her at 8 weeks old, but she is almost 6 months old now as you can see. She's brought me some happiness, which was sorely needed. This is not a blog where I am going to talk about depression or hardship a lot, but I won't deny that this was happening. Still, I will be updating more frequently now and hopefully keeping up on things more (fingers crossed!). Stay happy everyone!</span></div>

I was all too happy to oblige and had a ton of fun with it. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SNxX-8gHigg/Ue3DR7ibHQI/AAAAAAAAATQ/PIvvVGKBTMM/s1600/DSCN1445.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SNxX-8gHigg/Ue3DR7ibHQI/AAAAAAAAATQ/PIvvVGKBTMM/s1600/DSCN1445.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So first, let's talk about my new favorite medium in the world. SHRINKY DINKS! Oh my lord I am addicted. It allowed me to make a ton of custom pieces for my friend that I knew would be solely hers. One this necklace and earrings, I did the Superman logo. I also used my rivoli drop earrings in sapphire to make the earrings. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q2s6DEhDoMM/Ue3DXZCgOgI/AAAAAAAAATo/X8ujI6KngZE/s1600/DSCN1457.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q2s6DEhDoMM/Ue3DXZCgOgI/AAAAAAAAATo/X8ujI6KngZE/s1600/DSCN1457.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am so so happy with how these came out. They have the wonderful sparkle of the Swarovski rivolis and yet are still playful with the logos. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vCEghF3lj4o/Ue3DVcT6hwI/AAAAAAAAATg/Hzq-nFk4n2w/s1600/DSCN1448.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vCEghF3lj4o/Ue3DVcT6hwI/AAAAAAAAATg/Hzq-nFk4n2w/s1600/DSCN1448.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Next I moved onto the necklace. I took a picture of Superman and inserted it into a bezel drop, then filled it with ICE resin. When working with ICE resin make sure you have a number of pieces to fill at once. You have to mix at least an ounce at a time and if you don't use some of what is mixed then you have to throw it out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qw3JIcJxG-8/Ue3DTZAcjUI/AAAAAAAAATY/-UM82rIjZZI/s1600/DSCN1452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qw3JIcJxG-8/Ue3DTZAcjUI/AAAAAAAAATY/-UM82rIjZZI/s1600/DSCN1452.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I made beaded links with Swarovski pearls in the gemstone colors line, which are coral and lapis. I then used a silver plated chain to connect everything together. I had another shrinky dink of the logo so I added it as a drop behind the pendant. </span></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mEJm9NxF954/Ue3LK5qeRPI/AAAAAAAAAT0/Q6aOB7CtDDw/s1600/DSCN1460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mEJm9NxF954/Ue3LK5qeRPI/AAAAAAAAAT0/Q6aOB7CtDDw/s1600/DSCN1460.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So yes, I had more shrinky dink fun, in the form of a Firefly inspired set. With shrinky dinks, you can pretty much do whatever you can think of. Does anyone know what the symbols to the left are? The bottom one was definitely the most time consuming, but was SO worth it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I wanted this set to be more earthy and simple, in keeping with much of the show. The main pendant on the necklace is another ICE resin piece (this, like the shrinky dinks, will be a recurring theme) with our favorite captain's portrait. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Using some mocca crystals and another couple line diagrams of the ship from the show, I also decided to make a simple pair of earrings. The way the ship came out, I had to utilize it in another way. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">With the complexity of the line figure, I felt that the earrings should be simple as well. I was really happy with how this set came out and may make more in the future. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-66711168429528007162013-07-25T22:53:00.000-07:002013-07-25T22:53:36.012-07:00Flower Drop Earrings<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So I recently got my hands on some acrylic flower beads. I thought that they really suited being made into earrings, so with some Swarovski crystals in hand I thought I would see what they came out like. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xdFtfArcmE4/Ue297CPZMjI/AAAAAAAAASo/DuPy7_fmHyY/s1600/DSCN1373.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xdFtfArcmE4/Ue297CPZMjI/AAAAAAAAASo/DuPy7_fmHyY/s1600/DSCN1373.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I really felt like the paddle pins would give a nice finish to the flower. I had some mixes of crystals so I just thought I would see what would come of it. I got the flowers in not only clear, but a number of other colors as well. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The construction on these was pretty simple, but with the different colors of both flowers and crystals, some of them took on completely different looks. </span></div>

This is for a number of different reasons. One is that I am still dealing with the grief from my father's death. It is not something I am likely to get over any time soon, but I will try to stop disappearing from my business and blog. Another is that I had a huge custom order from a friend to make the jewelry she wanted for San Diego Comic Con. This took up a lot of my time, especially considering I had a vacation in the middle of all of that as well. Anyways, onto what I wanted to talk about today. Rivoli drop earrings!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I just love making these. They can be made in a number of different bright and vibrant colors and you can personalize them with really anything that you want. I might have gone just a little crazy with them. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tY4TSs6p4Qg/Ue2wti3ukaI/AAAAAAAAASU/swsosUPbGK0/s1600/DSCN1422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tY4TSs6p4Qg/Ue2wti3ukaI/AAAAAAAAASU/swsosUPbGK0/s1600/DSCN1422.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The findings I used are made especially for the Swarovski rivolis. I used a Loctite gel adhesive to secure them, though some people prefer an epoxy or other adhesive. The loctite gel is just my personal favorite for when I don't want to have to mix 2 part epoxy and believe me, a little of this stuff goes a loooooooong way. I cannot tell you how many times I got glue on my fingers when putting in the crystals because I had used a little too much glue. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wmfl4JDMJ0U/Ue2wgTa-UmI/AAAAAAAAARw/pv7niFFHaWk/s1600/DSCN1406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Wmfl4JDMJ0U/Ue2wgTa-UmI/AAAAAAAAARw/pv7niFFHaWk/s1600/DSCN1406.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">You can do anything you want with these really. I experimented with adding chain to them, as well as just a simple flower drop, which you will see in some of the pictures that follow. The varying colors in the rivolis really lend themselves to a lot of different designs. The findings come in a a few different finishes, and most of those that I used were either a shiny silver or a gunmetal finish. I especially love how the heliotrope and turquoise crystals look in them. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GmTzecaVQ0/Ue2woHX1vhI/AAAAAAAAASA/FFAdnT78TSw/s1600/DSCN1411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GmTzecaVQ0/Ue2woHX1vhI/AAAAAAAAASA/FFAdnT78TSw/s1600/DSCN1411.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The earrings in the next few pictures were made for a friend. She basically handed me the rivolis and told me to have fun with it, so I did. Sometimes that is the best way to create jewelry, to just be handed an item and then let your imagination go wild. I had some of these gunmetal keys in my stash, so decided to try a pair out with them. I also have a heliotrope pair that is similar available in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/151430352/heliotrope-swarovski-crystal-key?ref=shop_home_feat" target="_blank">shop</a>. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Sometimes making this type of stuff ends up being the best, because it is just fun and you never know what is going to come out of it!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">These earrings are fun and a great pop of color. With the different colors and combinations that you could use, they could work for any season or occasion. With this pair I decided to with a bright combination that suits the spring and summer. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I started with the earring findings, some smaller jumprings and two sided epoxy drops. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XeSIDRijp5k/UUZqrsCUbVI/AAAAAAAAARA/MV7I5i76F84/s1600/DSCN1356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XeSIDRijp5k/UUZqrsCUbVI/AAAAAAAAARA/MV7I5i76F84/s320/DSCN1356.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The earrings have a lovely S-curve that have loops attached, which can make for adding some interesting drops and dangles. One thing to keep in mind is the distance from the loops to the bottom of the hoop, so there does need to be some consideration regarding the size of the items that are used. This is part of the reason that I used the smallest size of jumpring that I could find. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7VeDBtkup5g/UUZqrrAMvnI/AAAAAAAAARE/3DgBbazGVnk/s1600/DSCN1359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7VeDBtkup5g/UUZqrrAMvnI/AAAAAAAAARE/3DgBbazGVnk/s320/DSCN1359.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">With this pair, I decided to do a set pattern of colors from side to side, but you could completely randomize them. I laid out the colors that I wanted to use, and then prepared for the second earring to make sure I had what I needed. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All in all, these came out great and are a pop of color that will suit a number of different outfits, occasions and other situations. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8532579897556868761.post-1501535187584865102013-03-07T23:25:00.001-08:002013-03-07T23:25:30.683-08:00Springtime Colors<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I am loving bright colors for springtime. While I enjoy pastel colors, I just think that pops of bright colors are refreshing and great with practically any outfit. Plus, if the weather is a little dreary (as it can sometimes be in the spring) these bright colors can help to cheer you up. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Mixing the bright colors with some pastels, such as the blue seen in the bracelet to the left, can also make some great combinations. This bracelet, has a fun color pop as well as some great design elements that could make it work with many different types of outfits, whether they be casual or formal. </span></div>

</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Flowers in these colors can also be great pieces for spring, and transition well into summer. Mixing these colors with darker finishes, such as the black wire in the bracelet above, or the gunmetal elements in the earrings to the right, also change the way the pieces look. Instead of standard gold or silver finishes, these darker finishes set off the bright colors more, at least in my opinion.</span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">These types of pieces are the perfect way to show and bring our your whimsical side. I love the pendant to the right because it has a vintage feel, but the flowers are those nice bright colors that go well with the light toned wood. The way the transfer was made shows almost a texture to the image, even though it is smooth. Also, it was positioned in such a way that the image seems to go off and continue from the edges of the pendant. </span></div>

</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As you can see from these designs, the colors look good in both simple pieces and more complicated designs. In the end, what is important is enjoying your jewelry pieces and having fun! Maybe on the darker days you can go with these brighter designs to remind you that sunshine is on the way. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So....sometimes you start making a certain style or type of piece, and you kindof...sortof...maybe get a little obsessed with making it. This has happened to me with wooden disc pendants. I get these pendants with no embellishment whatsoever and then add decals, transfers or rub ons. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">They can then have any type of look. Some are playful while others will be more whimsical. I sell them both in finished pieces as well as by themselves. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The different tones of the woods can go with different images and words, but I find those decals/rub ons that are more opaque work better. Those with translucency will lose much of their effect when placed over the wood, especially with the lighter tones of wood. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">While I have a number of them available for sale individually in my etsy store, I am thinking of making more and more of them into finished pieces. You can always play off of the colors in the image, as well as the tones of the wood. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The disc pendants do already have a hole drilled in them, but it is rather small. I find that they work well with small ice pick bails, but may not work as well with jumprings. You would definitely need to use a jumpring thinner than 18 gauge. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So this is the item that I keep making. Eventually I will run out of ideas of how to use it, or run out of images to put on it. We will see which comes first. </span><br />

</div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This necklace is part of a set that was made for a friend at their request. The earrings have appeared in a previous post. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGZjs-pqNow/URn49DtD23I/AAAAAAAAAOI/OQPUVzRCjxc/s1600/DSCN1343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UGZjs-pqNow/URn49DtD23I/AAAAAAAAAOI/OQPUVzRCjxc/s320/DSCN1343.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> As with the earrings, the color scheme was silver, golden shadow crystals and Crystal Bordeaux crystal pearls. To add to the focal component of the wing, I also used a navette pendant in the golden shadow. I knew that most of the necklace length was going to be composed of chain, so I wanted to add some beaded links in between the lengths of chain. I actually had made a couple for use with the earrings and ended up not using them, so I reserved them for use with the necklace.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fqmk-PZa46A/URn5D1gDjbI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/U9OpZlegf4A/s1600/DSCN1344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fqmk-PZa46A/URn5D1gDjbI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/U9OpZlegf4A/s320/DSCN1344.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">It took some adjusting for me to get the links, drops and other components put together and I actually ended up taking it apart a few times. Don't be afraid to do this! Sometimes it ends up better if you try multiple options before settling completely on your design. I had started with one idea, but once put together, I didn't like the way it looked. Being flexible enough to take it apart is a great factor of the creative process and will sometimes end up making your piece even better. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I5FvpcENzok/URn5EbyZS1I/AAAAAAAAAOY/L7sk_DDmzxY/s1600/DSCN1346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I5FvpcENzok/URn5EbyZS1I/AAAAAAAAAOY/L7sk_DDmzxY/s320/DSCN1346.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I love the way this necklace turned out. I ended up putting one of the drops behind the wing drop and one in front. Both of them in front took too much away from the wing itself, so I changed things up a bit. With the earrings, this necklace makes a great set. While they were created for the purpose of the holiday season, they could easily be worn any time.</span><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a1dxfjpXBtw/URn5Lrl1xQI/AAAAAAAAAO4/RHq285ewfgI/s1600/DSCN1351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a1dxfjpXBtw/URn5Lrl1xQI/AAAAAAAAAO4/RHq285ewfgI/s320/DSCN1351.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />

I started with the wing drops, as well as some Crystal Bordeaux crystal pearls by Swarovski as well as some golden shadow crystals in varying shapes. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-01jq1g8mjo0/URc_Rcf6yDI/AAAAAAAAANM/AFsIB8AGQ-8/s1600/DSCN1335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-01jq1g8mjo0/URc_Rcf6yDI/AAAAAAAAANM/AFsIB8AGQ-8/s1600/DSCN1335.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The crystals and crystal pearls are the only color in the piece, but still an accent to the wings. I didn't want to overwhelm the wings, so I ended up re-working them a number of times til they were exactly as I wanted them. I knew that I wanted a couple of dangles with the crystals, but again did not want them to be more than an accent to the wings. If they drew too much attention, then not only would they overshadow the wings but there would also be too much going on.</span></div>
<div>
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XEbC16zS7Yc/URc_Sa38EDI/AAAAAAAAANU/gxWJJV2qh_Q/s1600/DSCN1337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XEbC16zS7Yc/URc_Sa38EDI/AAAAAAAAANU/gxWJJV2qh_Q/s1600/DSCN1337.JPG" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I made a number of drops and beaded links to try and figure out the direction I wanted to go. After connecting the sterling silver filled earwires to the wings, I was able to use them as a template to figure out how I would like everything to lay. I used a silver plated chain as it went well with the silver color of the wings, and overall, I am happy with how these came out. The friend that I made them for loved them, and that is what really matters. </span></div>

I have had far too much going on in my personal life that required much more of my attention. There are certain things in life that just take precedence and are more important. I apologize that this blog and my jewelry making were put on hold, but it was something I had to do. I won't go into extreme details, as the pain is still too sharp, and there are some things that I prefer not to share here. The short version and the most important information is that after a battle with cancer and liver failure, my father passed away. Thankfully, in the past couple months I was able to spend time with him and help my parents, which is what was most important to me.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I have a few blog posts already prepared that need to go up and will hopefully be available soon. I'm working on getting things started up again and getting back to my creativity. Thank you all for understanding and sticking with me!</span></div>

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HOLU60-WfjA/UI2_s9eb9MI/AAAAAAAAAI8/Y-SW0VUR6lU/s1600/DSCN1264.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HOLU60-WfjA/UI2_s9eb9MI/AAAAAAAAAI8/Y-SW0VUR6lU/s320/DSCN1264.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A friend that I make a lot of jewelry for had a number of requests for some Halloween jewelry this year. This piece is Halloween themed, but could work in everyday wear as well. The main inspiration were the charms shown in the picture, and that she asked for the colors to be red and black. I thought that a gunmetal chain and toggle would work well for the darker look. After I gathered up my supplies I had to determine what type of design I wanted to go with. I thought that using the clasp as the focal piece would work well, as I knew it would be a longer necklace that would not need the clasp to be opened and closed. I started simply with connecting the clasp to the main length of chain and then started connecting the dangles to the clasp itself. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpFoBtHTuZA/UI2_5b3Lt9I/AAAAAAAAAJI/3mZvPysOgEs/s1600/DSCN1267.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpFoBtHTuZA/UI2_5b3Lt9I/AAAAAAAAAJI/3mZvPysOgEs/s320/DSCN1267.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I decided to go with different lengths of chain for some dimension, as well as because I knew the different drops would stand out more if they were a little off set. Since the clasp is not going to be opened and closed, the dangles could be attached directly with a jumpring to the ring portion of the clasp. I complimented the charms with some red and black Swarovski and Celestial crystals. The aluminum chain I used was lightweight and had links which weren't soldered, so it made opening the links and connecting everything easier. Plus, because it is a lightweight chain, the piece is still nice and light. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ytZO486FVU/UI3AGFUAEsI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/OQuy3W_RIPg/s1600/DSCN1268.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ytZO486FVU/UI3AGFUAEsI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/OQuy3W_RIPg/s320/DSCN1268.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I had to adjust the cluster a few times, to get it where it wasn't too separated, but all of the drops and charms could be seen. Obviously with natural movement and gravity, some may cover others and shift, but I tried to get it where all of the charms were facing the same way and the cluster was somewhat staggered to help minimize this. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The necklace is longer so it can easily be slipped over the head. In the picture below, it was hooked on the back of the display so that the cluster would be displayed correctly, so the necklace actually hangs much lower than it appears in the picture. While this piece was made with Halloween in mind, it could be easily used in a number of different situations. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zNWFUkL_FEI/UI3ATGmcNDI/AAAAAAAAAJY/_KDlSoT91pg/s1600/DSCN1271.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zNWFUkL_FEI/UI3ATGmcNDI/AAAAAAAAAJY/_KDlSoT91pg/s320/DSCN1271.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is the first time I have used the clasp as a focal piece. I like this style as it gives it a more casual look to it. We'll have to see what I can work this technique into in the future. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189104133274536584noreply@blogger.com0
